The band has a rich history rooted in family. The group’s origins trace back to Sly and the Family Stone, a popular funk band in the 1960s and 70s led by Sly Stone, older brother of Vet. In just 7 years, Sly and the Family Stone: toured the world, playing 3 tours in Europe,  and sold out Madison Square Garden a record 14 times.  The band has:

Seven Gold Albums!
Two Platinum Albums!
One Double Platinum Album!
One Triple Platinum Album!

They played on every major TV show, including two performances on Ed Sullivan. In 1997 the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Vet was only 15 when she starting touring with Sly, including the legendary Woodstock performance, playing tambourine and singing. She can tell you about the early days: when Sly was a DJ in Oakland, and he’d lay down the best raps on radio; the helicopter ride into Yasgar’s Farm and the rainy performance that followed.

Back then the music, the band – the whole experience -- was rooted in family, in spite of Sly’s fame. Her father and mother instilled respect and caring in their children. They supported each of their child’s dreams and helped anyway they could. When Sly was on the road their father would, at all times, be close by Vet’s side. Rose, her sister, was either on stage with Sly or looking out for Vet. It is easy to see how such a positive message could radiate from Sly’s tunes.

Eventually, Sly started producing and writing for Rose and Vet’s side band, Little Sister. Much to their surprise, they had Two Top 10 Hits themselves! The Stone Family was together and on a roll.

Early in 2004, Vet decided the time was right to rekindle the music of her brother with the same positive vibe and tight beats that had made Sly and the Family Stone a success.

With an emphasis on family, music, and positive thought, Vet reassembled most of the founding members of the Family Stone Band for performances over Easter weekend.   The band played two nights worth of Sly and the Family Stone hits at Broadway Studios in San Francisco. Members of the audience were so amazed by the groove the band was laying down they found it hard to stand. One audience member came up to Vet afterwards with tears in her eyes and said, ‘you have no idea what this music means to me.’ Vet said later, ‘right then, I knew we were doing the correct thing.’

Quickly after this early-April performance, the band headlined the Lilac Festival in Rochester, NY. Once again, the crowd was overwhelmed by the band’s sound and ability to make all the songs live so many years after first being laid down on tape.

They are constantly talking about the music and figuring out little things that make the sound just that much more on. I had to have people with me that are fully committed to this project and this is the right band. I think now we have a great band. One that can get along in all types of situations and that is what being a band is about. It is like family.”

Early on in this process she enlisted the help of fellow Family Stone Band founding member, Cynthia Robinson, who is a power on the trumpet. Next came Grammy Award winner, Skyler Jett, to handle the male lead vocals. How could this band be complete without another Stone sister? Vet found one in Lisa Stone, Rose’s daughter.

The rhythm section consists of brothers Tony and Pete Yates on guitar and bass, respectively. Drummer Eric Moore lays down the beats that keep the crowd moving while keyboardist David Jackson works his fingers over the Clavinet or Hammond organ.

All of this comes with Sly’s blessing. He has nothing but good things to say regarding the ability of this group to provide the groove needed to pass on the positive message he was trying to project.

Super High-Energy Funk At It's Best!
